every devil i meet becomes a friend of mine/ every devil i meet is an angel in disguise

indigo girls - jonas and ezekial!!!

[identity profile] kaalee.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
but I think the lines are the other way around.

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
you are right, but then you are wrong.

"now when i was young, my people taught me well - give back what you take or you'll go to hell. it's not the devil's land, you know it's not that kind - every devil i meet becomes a friend of mine. every devil i meet is an angel in disguise; jonas and ezekiel, hear me now ..."

Wah, the only one I knew for sure was already guessed. I can hear #2 in my head, but can't. come up. with the name.

[identity profile] darthrami.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
Power of Two! Power of two! ahahahaha.

By, um. somebody.

I dunno. It's on one of the CDs that selk made me. and it was on the boys on the side soundtrack. wah.

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
yes. you know that one! and i know you know many of the others as well.

[identity profile] darthrami.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sure I do. It's just, as I said in [livejournal.com profile] tangleofthorn's journal earlier today, I have a really hard time connecting visual input with aural memory. (add into that the fact that 90% of the time I can't remember the title or artist of the song even when I do know all the words, and... yeah *g*)

[identity profile] elance.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
19. Follow Me, most recently sung by Train, I think.
20. Push, by matchbox twenty (and that would be one of my favorite songs, yes)

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
hmm. i do not know this Train of which you speak, but Google turns up many hits for these lyrics by Train (and though a few of them have a note saying "[person i was thinking of] sings this song, not Train", it's possible the person who left the note was just unaware of the cover -- as i am. [g])

and: right!

[identity profile] elance.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I've checked their albums on Amazon, and I don't see that song on there, but I would have been willing to swear it was the same voice that sang "Meet Virginia"! I'm basically going by my recollections of what radio station I was listening to at the time.

I have a visual of driving down a road listening to that song on the radio, several times, and it was a road I have only driven down at a certain period in my life, and during that time I would have only listened to a certain radio station, and that radio station plays /these/ sorts of songs, and going by my knowledge of how the voice sounds, it sounded like Train to me.

Not a foolproof method, certainly. I could well be wrong. But /someone/ who would have been played on that radio station (which didn't deviate too far from the hits) sang it.

4. NIN - Hurt. Well, I assume it's the NIN version and not the Johnny Cash re-make. But that could be a false assumption.

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
in fact it is the johnny cash remake, but you mentioned it, so there you go, and you get the props. :-)

16. Time and Tide--I don't know who the original artist is, but I suspect you've got the Phantoms version!

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
i do indeed have the phantoms version. in fact i had to google for the original artist. so you win!

[identity profile] jgesteve.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
#7 is from "Gabriel's Letter" from Kiss of the Spiderwoman by John Kander and Fred Ebb sung in the original Broadway cast by Victor Garber I believe...

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't think it's victor garber (i think he's a little old for that part and i think i'd have remembered -- but of course i'm prepared to be wrong), but yes, that's the track. i knew if anyone was going to get it, it'd be you. :-D

[identity profile] jgesteve.livejournal.com 2004-12-13 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Must have seen him sing it at some point cause I have this firm image of him in my head... but you are right he was not the original according to ibdb.com...
