the voter's dilemma

voter: a bit left of center.

incumbent: republican. bit of a rightie. (and the thing is, even assuming the individual doesn't bug me, the party really does make me squirm.)

independent candidate 1: nuts.

independent candidate 2: utterly bonzo.

democrat: none.

... what's a girl to do?

How horrible is the Repubican's record vs. what he or she is likely to do next and the relative craziness of Indies 1 and 2?

Yikes.

The relative craziness of Indie 1 is pretty alarming; the relative craziness of Indie 2 is off the charts.

The relative potential harm of Incumbent is ... arguable. Like I said, the trouble is the party as much as the candidate. I didn't mention it, but this is the Senate we're talking about -- so, yeah, very much an issue.

I selected "write-in" and left it blank. It'll be counted as "other," if anything. (If a real person were going to see it, I assume she'd think one of two things: either Oooh, Voter Makes a Statement, or Great ... got one up from Palm Beach. [g] But this was entirely computerized, so that little dialogue sequence only exists in my mind.) At the moment, that's enough for me. In this particular race, it's not like there's a chance the Republican's going to be voted out anyway. I mean, if it were possible to defeat him, the Democrats would have run someone, wouldn't they.
