this may not have been it, but it's a happy thought:
my dad has a machine, a thing he got a few years ago that my brother figured out how to connect, which allows you (read: me) to transfer from a cassette tape to a CD. i'm sure this is no big deal, but it's a relatively big deal to me, and the practical upshot is that among the most recent additions to my iTunes were the recordings of radio broadcasts of concerts i sang in high school. i can listen to my own chorus singing Durufle's requiem, instead of the (admittedly technically excellent, but not my own) atlanta symphony.
