"don't i owe you money? we ought to go get a beer some time."

can i get a judge's ruling on that? acceptable, or just too trite for words?

Yes, I'll take a Grolsch. Oh, you mean the classmate.

If you do indeed owe him a few bucks, then it sounds fine to me.

Hmmm. Possible.

I think getting it, I'd be willing to overlook triteness. Giving, I'd be harder on myself (and more difficult to keep a straight face, so...)

yeah -- but you were there for the whole "don't drink coffee" freakin' comedy of errors, so you know whence comes my anxiety. :-)

Yikes! How do you socialize with someone who doesn't drink coffee?

oh, christ -- how, indeed.

i've set myself five pages of typology before i'm allowed to clean out the car and go put gas in it, and i've just passed the page break from 3 to 4, so i'll have to tell the story another time. (do you lurk in AIM or similar, and i just don't know where? or are you a chat-room recluse?) the short answer, though, is,

you don't.

Recluse, I'm afraid.

What I don't understand about some-- only a few, but some-- of the non-coffee drinkers is that they just don't seem to get that 'coffee' is shorthand for 'anything that might be purchased in a coffee house or similar establishment, and exists less to be drunk than to provide an excuse for conversation.' o
