In self-defense, you might want to teach her this way of boiling eggs, which actually has far better results and is easier:

Put eggs in pot, cover with water.
Bring to boil.
Turn off the heat and cover the pot.
Walk away for fifteen minutes.
Return, rinse in cold water to stop the eggs cooking.

You still have the problem of the initial boil, but that takes only a couple of minutes.

Because eggs are a cheap, convenient, and tasty source of protein. :) I get the ones that aren't produced by tortured cannibals and am content.
