re:  e-mail

okay, you've got to stop.

the jokes, the cute things with animation, the endless forwards -- just stop.  you've had e-mail too long to still be doing this crap.  also, may i alert your attention to snopes:  wearing a ponytail is not going to make me a rape victim.

fried out from writing papers into the middle of the night,

my aunt is the latest person to have sent me a version of the e-mail forward mentioned in this article (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/rape.htm). le sigh.

Replying the link to the debunking article at www.snopes.com has deterred more than one forwarder to my inbox.

Absolute failure to reply to anything not family-related finally got through to my mom, but your aunt may be made of sterner stuff.

it'd probably work on my aunt, but i don't want to give the impression of -- well, of saying exactly what i said above in the Memo She Will Never See, which is that i am sooooo much more worldly and internet-savvy and all the rest than she is. if my mother (or their brother or other sister) or one of my cousins did it, i bet it'd go over better. (actually i'm sure it'd go over fine if i did it. but i'm okay with just clicking "next" rather than upsetting anyone. [g] also, i sent the snopes link to my mother, and my brother and i have both mentioned it before, so who knows, she may one day say to her sister, "you know, the kids showed me this debunking-urban-legends site ...")

Dude.

No kidding.

I did the "reply all" to my dad's "OMGWTFCOCKROACH" emails a couple of years ago with the debunking link from breakthechain.org and a friendly service announcement that it or snopes are really good sites for checking things out.

he didn't quite get the picture until I finally replied all with all of that info and the warning that, though I loved him and would *never* change my phone number and not tell him, I would not HESITATE to get a new email address and NOT tell him and actually FORBID other family members to give it to him if he did not stop the MADNESS!

He did.

At least, to me. ;)
