this is the part where i declare war on everything

why in the name of whatever deity you choose is the world full of three-quarter sleeves these days?  wtf, ladies?! -- are people, like, encouraging this?!  i want long sleeves, dammit, and i can roll them up if i want them to be 3/4 length!  (i want long sleeves with french cuffs, actually, but i'm prepared not to get too grabby.)

GRAR.

3/4 sleeves make me nuts. I usually end up pushing them up to the elbow. Of course, I'm not at all fond of the sleeveless look that's so popular, either. My upper arms are nobody's business. *g*

[identity profile] servalan.livejournal.com 2005-05-29 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm encouraging it. I like 3/4 sleeves. As a petite, "long" sleeves always end up far over my knuckles. While that used to be the fashion (and maybe still is), it gets darned annoying after a while.

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2005-05-29 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
my arms are short, too -- see above, re: rolling things up. you're not so small that 3/4 sleeves fit you the way long sleeves are supposed to.

and anyway, it's not that i mind that 3/4 sleeves exist; i mind that they exist to the exclusion of long sleeves, which i swear are like hen's teeth. GRAR, i say again.

aside from which, you are on the record as being in favor of capri pants, which as all the world knows are (a) wrong, wrong, wrong and (b) 3/4 sleeves for the leg. so, what does the west coast know, anyway? ;-)

[identity profile] servalan.livejournal.com 2005-05-29 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only do I like capris in summer time . . .

I have to buy the super-short ones in order to get the regular fit b/c "ankle crop" fit me like regular trousers. I really am that short.

Wanna go for coffee later?

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2005-05-29 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"ankle crop" isn't the same as capri. :-D i am speaking of the sort that are designed to hit at mid-calf, and unless you have to buy bermuda shorts to get that look, you're not that short. (plus, i know you, man! i know how short you are -- regular-length pants are too long on me, and ankle-length are only just too short, and yeah, you're shorter than me, but the beginning of this paragraph established that we're not talking about the same thing anyway. [g])

would have gone for coffee, but sunday = chapel choir action. tomorrow will be with the writing of the essay, but tuesday, maybe.

I think she's saying that she has to buy the shorter-than-the-average-capri-cut capris in order to get the regular capri fit, just as she buys ankle crop to get a regular pants fit. Not that ankle crop and capri are the same. I know from experience.

And for the record, 3/4 is my very favorite sleeve length and I wear capris in warm weather.

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2005-05-30 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
well, then, you're wrong too. :-) (about capris, i mean. because they are Wrong. about 3/4 sleeves, i say knock yourself out, but my complaint is really that full-length sleeves are damn near impossible to find. the abundance of capris hasn't led to a reduction in the availability of long pants, you know what i'm saying?)

[identity profile] merrycontrary.livejournal.com 2005-05-30 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not wrong! :P

I see what you're saying about the absence of long sleeve, but mightn't that be a product of the season? You won't find much winter wool in stores right now, either. (I know long sleeves is not the same as wool, but I am trying to make a point!)

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2005-05-30 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
:-P

(but i can still find long pants. so there. or something.)

I'm with you.

I hate them too! I always feel like people are thinking "That shirt is too small for her, yet she's wearing it."

[identity profile] badfalcon.livejournal.com 2005-05-29 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno... I kinda like 3/4 sleeves. they hide the ickness that is my upper arm and they cater for the fact I don't like my wrists being covered. i'm... just way too picky with clothes and they sort out two of my main issues with tops *shrugs*

You're very pretty and I miss you. (((HUGS)))

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2005-05-29 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
i miss you too, sweetie pie! let's be sure to be in the same place for longer than about twenty minutes next time i'm in town, mkay? [hugs back atcha] (also, thanks! [g])

Because 3/4 sleeves are meant to be the thing for large arms, per the What Not To Wear girls. For some reason, the crop look on arms is completely different from the crop look on legs.

I love the 3/4 sleeves deal because I have unnaturally long arms, and everything is going to look too short on me, so it's better to look as if it's intentional.

[identity profile] sheltiesong.livejournal.com 2005-05-30 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. And here I love 3/4 length sleeves simply because with my arms, the cuff actually ends at the base of my hand the way it's supposed to ...

Clothing makers hate women

Men's shirts come in differnt sleeve lengths for the same size shirt. If a man has a short arm he can buy a shorter sleave. Same thing in pants, men's come in lengths from 29 inches to 36 inches per size.

IF a woman is lucky she can find the same size pant in petite, regular, and long. Normally, it's one length doesn't quite fit anyone.
3/4 length sleeves are the clothing industry's attempt to avoid having to offer women's shirts in short AND long sleeves.
