lifted from a whole bunch of people by now:

Go here and choose the following:
1.  One icon that makes you automatically think of me.
2.  One that you think I should use more often.
3.  One that you don't get/needs more explanation/you have no idea why the hell I have it.

aha! that is easily explained.

last year, [livejournal.com profile] servalan founded the oxford university folklore and fan fiction society, or ou3fs (see also [livejournal.com profile] ou3fs). trouble is, it's an unofficial group, not actually affiliated with the university, and thus labeling it "OU3FS" could get a person in trouble with the university in ways that must be familiar to you from your undergraduate days. rather than go to the trouble and expense of applying to the university for permission to operate under their name, she did what unofficial groups everywhere do: she crossed out the U. members often type the name as O>U<3FS (or, my personal choice, OU3FS.) at the very first meeting, in a starbucks, there was a sign to put on the table so we'd all know where to come sit down -- but it said OU3FS, aiee! but [livejournal.com profile] cannons_at_dawn crossed it out with a pink highlighter, and a logo was born.

we then realized that not only was it entirely valid as a logo for our group, but it also seems to say 'Non-U', which is also, after all, for most of us anyway, true. :-D hence the keyword.
