D major is a good key
so is b minor, of course, which is what we were in for a lot of yesterday.
seems a decent time to trot out the new icon (the graphic i stole it from used to be a kind of golden mustard-yellow -- i'm sure it worked in the color scheme of the relevant website, but i hated it, ick). why? because last night, i wasn't the Utility Tenor -- i was the entire goddamn tenor section. (speaking of b minor. bottom note in the tenor part for yesterday's anthem: E below middle C. bottom note in fox's range: usually E flat below middle C. oy.)
my friend the other strong soprano was frustrated with the timidity of the other girls, and lamenting my absence, but i said to her, dude, can't be in two places at once. to which she pointed out that even if i could, that would be immaterial if i couldn't sing two parts at once. [sigh]. never argue with a logician. [g]
so the sopranos missed me, and nevertheless we were preparing a piece for next week with a divided tenor part. i said to the director, i'm happy to help out, but i can't sing both tenor lines, yo. :-) poor thing, she was about to jump under a bus -- how does half the choir not show up, and only half of them let a person know they're not coming? we've got a combination countertenor/baritone who normally sings alto hopping down to join a goodhearted baritone who can go up to e flat, and the two of them are going to sing second tenor. if the genuine biotenor shows up, and is allowed to sing, i suspect he'll be doing second tenor and one (or, god help us, both) of the others will go back to his customary section. i? will be all of the first tenors, next week. times when it's useful to have some skill as a belter.
sigh.
