this is a motley sort of list ...

from a few of you by now:  'TOP 50 THINGS EVERYONE SHOULD TRY A BITE OF IN THEIR HIS OR HER LIFETIME' -- okay, sure :-) -- bold the ones you've eaten, italicize the ones you didn't like.

02. American diner breakfast
03. Australian meat pie
04. Barbecue
05. Barramundi
06. Burgers
07. Caviar
08. Cheesecake
09. Chinese food -- both aimed-at-Americans Chinese food and cooked-in-my-brother's-mother-in-law's-kitchen genuine-article Chinese food, yes.
10. Chocolate
11. Clam chowder (Manhattan style) (the least of the clam chowders!  they don't think everyone should try boston clam chowder?  BAH.)
12. Cornish Pasty
13. Crab
14. Cream tea
15. Curry (curried what?  BAH.)
16. Durian fruit
17. Fresh fish
18. Greek food
19. Guinea pig
20. Haggis
21. Ice cream
22. Jerk chicken/pork (kebab and lamb kebab are two separate entries, although lamb is usually the default, but jerk chicken or jerk pork will do.  BAH.)

26. Lobster
27. Mango
28. Mexican food
29. Moreton Bay Bugs

43. Scallops
44. Shark
45. Squid
46. Steak

i mean to say, 'tapas' and 'greek food' and 'chinese food' and 'mexican food' and 'thai food' and 'sandwiches', for god's sake, but no catchall for 'seafood' -- you have to list all the critters separately?  BAH, say i.  but, whatever ...

Who the heck made up this list? Fish in 15 varieties, and "Chinese food"? It's not very imaginative.

Furthermore, why should the list contain so many foods that people just plain eat regularly? Burgers? Pizza? Sandwiches?! Not exactly a culinary adventure, here. I'm impressed only by how much this is exercising me!

What a silly silly list.

I've eaten exemplars of #9 which handily encompassed at least nine of the other items on the list! (Ah, Chinese seafood hot pot...)

the list is, as you say, gooftastic.

The basic premise behind that list is questionable. I disagree that one *needs* to take a bite of any food. And I'm not exactly proud of some of the foods listed that I did eat. (And yes, having catchalls for ethnic foods while listing *sandwiches* strikes me as silly. Also. Where's the matzo?)

The "catch-all" categories had me a bit stumped too. I mean "Barbecue"? Just "Barbecue"? *shrug*

Just fyi, the original list had it listed as "clam chowder". Later someone added the (Manhattan style), which is not true chowder anyway as chowder is traditionally made with milk (and I don't give a fuck what Webester's says). Manhattan clam chowder is vegetable soup with clams, not chowder.
