the passage of time

so i'm watching the DVD extras for witness, and here's this documentary including interviews with the artistic staff and cast (including viggo mortenson, by the way) -- and, OH MY GOD kelly mcgillis?  i mean, like, i know, twenty years have gone by since witness and top gun, but, DAMN, does she look it.

i should say this:  in fact she looks like a woman in her mid to late 40's, which is what she is.  i applaud the fact that she appears not to have had any work done on her face, or even to color her hair.  it's just startling that the fact that she looks her age makes her look so damn old.

She was Lady MacBeth in the production we saw last year at the D.C. Shakespeare Theater. Mark was happy we got very close seats because for the second half of the play, where she's not in it very much, she's basically naked (wearing a VERY sheer, billowy nighty and obviously nothing else). She looked fabulous.

And she had colored her hair at one point, because the pre-prod pix showed her with long very blonde hair.

Still. I wish I looked that good (twenty years ago!).

oh, sure, they all dye their hair at one time or another for whatever job they've got or who knows what. but when you get these one-camera interview thingies with DVD extras and it's clear that they're dressed in their own clothes and did their own makeup, and you see a woman with grey hair (who isn't trading on Grande Dame status, like maggie smith or judi dench), you think, good for you, kelly mcgillis. :-)
