thought before retiring

let us not forget that a person who truly believes what he is saying is not lying, even if what he is saying is patently not true.

I'm not sure that I believe there is such thing as an unintentional lie. If there's no intent to deceive then it's not a lie.

You can be sloppy in passing along information that you haven't checked out or that's from a knowingly bad source, but if you believe it to be true it doesn't quite rise to the level of a lie (*ouch* on the unintentional pun).
