memo to the BBC commentator:

1.  the skater's name is Apolo Anton Ohno, not Anton Apolo Ohno.  surely you have documentation in front of you specifying this.

2.  the flag with the vertical blue, white and red stripes is french, not german.

:-)

[eta:  oh, god, and please don't use the word 'chinaman'.]

[eta2:  and, dude, the guy who comes in second gets the silver medal, not the bronze.]

Please tell me you are joking about the above. Please. How could a BBC commentator mistake the French flag for the German flag?! Is the person color blind?

And chinaman?

And I thought the Washington Post was bad for referring to Shaun White as a figure skater.

it was a quick thing, and he only did it once -- he was probably trying to talk about one thing while thinking another, and the wires gor crossed. there was a french skater and a german skater in the same heat, and one came in third but was disqualified so the other advanced to the semis. the next time he mentioned either of them he got it right. (i got nothing for the 'chinaman' thing, the silver/bronze thing, or the persistent reading of the guy's name wrong thing, though.)
