Sent an e-mail to the bursar, my supervisor, and the senior tutor, saying this is what's happened, I don't obviously know how it works, but I'd like to be with my family on Saturday and also have the opportunity to take my exams when, you know, my grandfather hasn't just died, and I don't know which of you I should be asking to meet as early as possible Tuesday morning, but. Senior Tutor got back to me within half an hour to say of course things can be rescheduled, there's a form you'll need me to countersign.

Will still meet with people tomorrow, I expect.

South Byron, New York -- in the house my grandmother is still living in. The nearest place you're likely to have heard of is Rochester.

Yes, I know Rochester. Anyway, I was mistaken - I thought I caught an expression not unlike some of my Russian relatives'.

Heh. No, this was my mother's father -- not a drop of anything east of, oh, Amsterdam (if that; I think the Dutch blood is on my grandmother's side, actually). :-) They were. Five decades, even. (I don't know when that picture was taken, actually. Probably some time in the late-ish 80's, based on the jacket.) She died a couple of weeks before their anniversary -- but on the Hebrew calendar, the day after.
