just a bit of culture shock

Took my dad to the airport this morning, and stopped at the grocery store on the way back, and OMFG.  I knew it was going to be hard to adjust, because I remember being kind of at sea when I went grocery shopping with my mother last December, but this was a different store and I was there by myself, and I swear I must have looked like -- you know how New Yorkers can tell the tourists because even if they carry their bags correctly and don't have their cameras around their necks, they still look up at the height of the buildings instead of keeping their heads down?  I think it must have been like that.  I could kind of feel myself looking at the, like, seventeen thousand kinds of yogurt and then turning into the next aisle and looking at seventeen thousand kinds of something else, and having to remind myself to get out of the way of the traffic.

You mean that there are tall buildings in NYC???

*hugs* I'm sure you'll be back in the swing of things in no time.

The reverse culture shock is worse than the initial one I think.
