My father's brother is in the hospital.
He called this afternoon, not knowing my parents were out of town -- so he told me instead of them, and said he wasn't going to call their cell phones because he didn't want to bother them on their trip. I told him they'd much rather be bothered on their trip than not hear about this until the 11th of August when they get home again, and besides there wasn't really a chance I wasn't going to tell them when they called me this evening, so he might as well call them himself. Which he said he would. It was hard to tell what he said he was in for; the connection was v. fuzzy and he sounded pretty tired, so all I know is it's something clogging up his chest and they're trying to solve it medically unless they really have to take him in for surgery.
I'm choosing to be reassured by the fact that he called himself instead of his wife calling to say he was sick. Even though when I spoke to my parents half an hour ago, they hadn't heard from him. I told my dad to call his voice mail and see if there was a message there for which he hadn't yet gotten a little notification icon.
