one down, along with my spirits ...

Didn't get in to UCLA.

Am concentrating on not viewing this as harbinger of things to come. UCLA program is different than all other three, and very likely statement of purpose was far less convincing (even though tweaked) for Indo-European historical linguistics with comparative mythology and poetics, though that would certainly have been interesting, when real passion lies in sociolinguistics, dialectology, language evolution vs./and contact, etc. Keep reminding self UCLA wasn't top choice anyway.

But also keep remembering that guys at Penn mentioned, over lunch, prospective-student weekend to take place at end of February. Have not received invitation to said weekend. Am inclined to interpret this as indicator that am not being considered for admission.

Must concentrate on reminding self that linguistics departments at Penn, NYU, Michigan are larger than Indo-European studies department at UCLA.

Good thing I made this cake last night.

for an update? Or is that considered bad form? I applied to grad school at the university & dept. where I did my undergrad work so I just kept bugging them until I had an answer.
