liveblogging the oscars

I want to be Helen Mirren when I grow up.  Or at least I want her wardrobe.  And her hair stylist.  ("The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels" -- that wasn't Tom Hanks's line, was it?  I mean, we all just heard him say it, but he must have been quoting someone, yeah?  Uncle Google hasn't been any help finding a source -- anyone know?)

Heh, Daniel Day-Lewis genuflecting to Helen Mirren.  We hear you, Daniel.  (And you know, for a guy who is by all reports such a godawful dick, he gives a pretty classy acceptance speech.)

I'm surprised you don't recognize it. Martin Sheen on West Wing :D

Tom Hanks at the Oscars: February 1994.

Martin Sheen on West Wing: ... well, I don't have an exact airdate, but that show didn't go on the air until 1999.

So assuming Tom was quoting someone, I mean, who was it? ;-)

ah, okay. see, I'm actually not watching the Oscars, so I assumed it was from tonight rather than '94. That was his Philadelphia speech, yes?

Yeah, I'm not finding any other source, so maybe it really was just Tom. Or his speechwriter.
