torchwood 2x10 "from out of the rain"

So I watched this week's (or, I guess, next week's) Torchwood this morning before coming to work, since I couldn't manage to get a file that didn't crash my iPod-format converter (grr ...), and I have these spoilery things to say about it.

-- I am always a fan of more Ianto, but they could have let the guy un-furrow his brow for twenty seconds together, couldn't they? Good grief.

-- Not sure how they Suddenly Knew that the breaths escaping the flask would kill the catatonic people. I suppose it's the "well, it's so shiny" method of identifying something as evil; but it sure seems to me like if the breath gets out and they draw a great big gasp, then they ought to survive, and conversely if it's going to kill them, they shouldn't inhale first. I know, I know; [handwave]. Fine.

-- So that one little boy was the only survivor. And the fact that the little kids were taken upset Ianto more than all the rest of the stuff in the episode that already upset him more than things usually do. I predict a non-trivial number of stories in which, because his parents and sister are gone now, Ianto and Jack adopt the boy and live domestically ever after. To which I say oh, god, spare me. In fact I'm about ready to write something in which Ianto tells [someone], "Gwen and Tosh wanted us to take him in, sort of a Torchwood mascot or something, but we couldn't even keep a pet pterodactyl alive, you know, if there's one thing none of the five of us should be doing, it's raising children."
