scotland to norway:  check under the sofa

Norway took Canada to an extra end this morning and damn near won it, but that game used up all of Ulsrud's mojo and he came within a whisker of losing to Germany in the afternoon.  But he didn't, and then Germany lost to Canada, and what a difference a day makes -- check the current standings:

CAN  7-0
AUS  4-3
DEN  4-3
FRA  4-3
GER  4-3
NOR  4-3
SCO  4-3
CHN  3-4
USA  3-4
CZE  2-5
SUI  2-5
SWE  1-6

You are reading that right:  at the moment there is a six-way tie for second place.  About half those teams have not played each other yet, so the remaining six draws will shake some of that loose -- but maybe not all of it.  There's a very real possibility we'll be in tiebreaker hell 48 hours from now.  Stay tuned!

They are, a bit, yes. Tonight's game vs. Germany was basically a shot-making clinic put on by the Canadian skip. It was like surgery. At least they were very gentlemanly about it. They took three in the first and looked like they were going to steal four in the second, until Kapp the German skip made a frankly astonishing draw for one -- and Martin the Canadian skip congratulated him and meant it. Yay, good guys. (Don't get me wrong: I'd like to see someone beat them, just because I'd like to think it can be done. But if someone's going to cut everyone else to ribbons, I'm glad it's a team who brings sportsmanship instead of gamesmanship, you know?)
