whee! let's hear it for arrant pedantry!

One should not say "Today is my birthday," since a person has only one birthday, the very day he was born. More properly, one should say "Today is the anniversary of my birthday." Assuming, of course, it is the anniversary of one's birthday. -- Beth Baniszewski, of Columbia, MD, in a second-runner-up Style Invitational entry from August 1, 1999

Last year on my birthday the anniversary of my birthday, [livejournal.com profile] wordplay and [livejournal.com profile] ellen_fremedon took me out to lunch, and when we came back to work I found money in the parking lot and then I got to my desk and learned that Jerry Falwell had died.

This year, the Indians are up 4-1 in the 8th (and in first place in the AL Central, and no, I don't care that there's more than three quarters of a season to go), there is free iced coffee at Dunkin' Donuts, and the California Supreme Court has ruled in favor of equal marriage rights.

Who wants cake? :-D

[eta: And you know who else's birthday is today? I'll tell you:
Tenzing Norgay (a.k.a. Not Sir Edmund Hillary)
Jasper Johns
Sir Peter Shaffer (who wrote Equus and Amadeus and so on)
Pierre Curie
James Mason (the Voice of God [g])
Anna Maria Alberghetti
Madeleine Albright
etc.]

Happy Birthday Anniversary! Clearly you were born on a very fortuitous day!
