more with the olympics

DID YOU SEE THAT BABY GIRL START TO TAKE A STEP THAT WOULD HAVE HAD HER FOOT OUT OF BOUNDS SO SHE TURNED IT INTO A KICK-THING INSTEAD?  Awareness of where the lines are, that's what they keep talking about.  Tim said "Land on your feet and stay in bounds."  (Tim is clever that way; his High Bar 101 syllabus is "Grab the bar.  Grab the bar.  Grab the bar.")  And she did, she did, and when she was about to go out she went Oh, I'll put my foot here instead.

And then baby girl teammate who could not possibly catch her said Well, hell, I can catch the silver, and beat the Chinese gymnast by .075, which Al is like "that's just a simple step" -- and, um, yeah, Al, it is, because the Chinese girl took a wobbly step and the kid from the Wheaties box did not.  QED.

I do have a hard time with Bela Karolyi when he's annoyed, but I love him to pieces when he's happy.  :-)  OH!  And I love the footage of Bela watching Nastia's routine and knocking Bob to the floor and all the rest of it.  HAR.

In other news, Bob Costas has a picture in his attic y/n?  (possibly a picture of Dick Clark, but that's a separate question entirely.)

[eta:  HAR, I love the medal presenters telling the girls not to cry.]

Yes, Bob Costas has a picture or two in his attic.
