Wilhelm von Volkswagen, 1999-2008
The man from the towing company has just taken away my old car, a '99 VW Jetta (new body style) named Wilhelm, also answering to "Simon", whom which I have donated to a charity that provides job training and other services for people living with developmental disabilities. datlowen in 1999; I bought him (the car, not datlowen) in 2001 or thereabouts, and he has been with me since, apart from the two years I was in England, when he lived with my brother and sister-in-law. His odometer reads over 120,000 miles, and despite a series of irksome repairs, there was never anything seriously wrong with him.
So long, Billy. We all miss you.
(Note that the Jetta is being towed out past a blue Mini Cooper -- that's his baby sister. Her name is Gizmo, and she's bigger on the inside.)
