Day 01 - A show that should never have been canceled
Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching
Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this season)
Day 04 - Your favorite show ever
My favorite show ever? That's a hard one. Because so many shows change(d) so much in the courses of their runs, didn't they? I mean. Can I say Cheers, given how different it got when Shelley Long left and Kirstie Alley came in? Ditto M*A*S*H, Wayne Rogers, Mike Farrell; although I find a lot to like in both early and late M*A*S*H, they are substantially different shows. Likewise, as we all know, Sports Night season 1 vs. season 2. Likewise, obviously, Due South seasons 1-2 and season(s) 3(-4). These were all good shows (at least at the beginning and sometimes after the big change-up), but it's hard to say any of them is my favorite ever.
On the other hand, there are shows that never changed - actually, I was about to say The Sentinel, but that was very different after season 3, wasn't it. Hmm. Or, you know, shows that were never meant to stay all that much the same, like Law & Order (the original - I watch one or two of the others, but they are not candidates) or Doctor Who.
So, hmm. My favorite show ever. I think, even given my first graf up there, I'm going to have to go with The West Wing, despite the fact that it was really two shows, those being West Wing 1999-2003 and West Wing 2003-6. I liked the latter very much, but I adored the former; it is maybe the only hour-long show for which I ever deliberately and consistently made time in my schedule. Of course, now that we have DVR, the necessity of making time in one's schedule is different - I do still stop what I'm doing for Doctor Who and the spin-offs, and I keep them; and I DVR Leverage and White Collar, but I don't keep them forever - but West Wing, man, I hadn't known that kind of devotion to a show before that (ALL! SUMMER!), and I haven't really known it since, so there you go, that's the winner.
