They're up to Order of the Phoenix on ABC Family now, and I've got to tell you, every time I see Imelda Staunton in any role at all, I'm reminded of mrshamill. (I like you way, way better than Professor Umbridge, T! It's just something around the eyes.) This part is as creepy as all get-out, but man, she's good in it.

That was perfect casting. So was Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart, come to think of it.

Right? And he was an awfully good sport about that. :-) (I think all of the adult casting has been fantastic, actually - which means it's been type-casting down to the ground, but hey, whatever works. Did I ever tell you the story about my temp who didn't think Alan Rickman would make a good villain?)

Seriously? I'll admit that Rickman doesn't really fit my image of Snape, but he's great in that part. He's got the perfect voice.

This was the spring or so of 2001 (wasn't it?), before the first movie came out. And the guy came to work one day and grumbled about some casting news he'd heard.

ME: I haven't been following the casting news, so I don't know what you mean.

HIM: I'm disappointed in the casting of my favorite character.

ME: I don't know who your favorite character is, so I don't know what you mean.

HIM: My favorite character is Professor Snape, and I don't think the actor they've chosen to play him will make a good villain.

ME: And I haven't been following the casting news, so I still don't know what you mean.

HIM: It's Alan Rickman.

ME: ... You're not allowed to talk to me about movies anymore until you've gone home and rented Die Hard.


I mean, to say nothing of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, right, about which his Sheriff of Nottingham was approximately the only good thing in the stupid movie. Gah, news flash, Temp Dude: Sense and Sensibility was news because he wasn't the villain. Gah!

Oh, man, that's priceless. Maybe the only Rickman movie the guy had seen was Galaxy Quest?
