thoughts

... on what is apparently a post-heavy night for me.

Tomorrow is Wednesday. Wednesday. Must remember this. Usually I don't get confused in weeks with holidays in them, but the fact that it was Tuesday today stumped me every time I needed to think about what day it was.

When I quit playing Lego Harry Potter tonight, I was on 66.6% complete. This shouldn't amuse me as much as it does.

I'm afraid my very next thought was that I hope that (apparently ordained, which, wtf, Protestant sects?) pastor in Gainesville doesn't hear about it, or he'll take away my game and set it on fire.

This was a wrong thought to have for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that it tends to trivialize the fact that this nut and his misguided adherents intend setting fire to as many copies of the Qur'an as they can get their filthy, hypocritical hands on. (I heard a quote from him on the radio this afternoon, in which he said - and I'm quoting from memory, but not making this up - "We're going to show how Islam is a lot less tolerant and a lot more violent than they would have us believe." BY BURNING ISLAM'S HOLY BOOK, they're going to show this. There are times when the world presents me with irony that just makes me want to scream.)

What makes me saddest in some ways are all of the articles and links I've been seeing lately patiently explaining to Americans why this is a bad idea. (Mainly because of Petraeus's point that the backlash will get some (more) soldiers killed, which, duh, but maybe he thinks it's a point taht will carry ome weight with his audience.)

Nobody should have to be told. The consequences shouldn't have to appeal to anyone's self-interest. It's just wrong. You don't do it. It might be your right to be able to do it, but there are a lot of things that are legally okay but are morally and ethically wronger than fucking wrong.

D:

I heard a piece on NPR about the Gainesville dude this morning and I made a literal D: face on the shuttle. There were gasps from the back of the bus.

I was so horrified, I can't even... it literally makes me speechless with rage and sorrow.
