That pleased me very much.

I mean, just as in "The Poseidon Adventure" "The Voyage of the Damned", the only non-regular-cast survivor was the most extreme coward (okay, in Voyage there were a couple of others), but the main point is, the Doctor dropped off a companion before that companion's life was comprehensively ruined, he realized and articulated his many failings, and good for all of them. (Rusty Davies must be spitting nails right about now.)

Also, Doyleist tangent for just a moment, it solves the problem of how that little girl isn't going to look like a seven-year-old version of Karen Gillan forever.
