I've made it to due South season 3 episode 2 "Eclipse," and friends, there is a weeping angel in the crypt where Fraser and RayK stake out Marcus Ellery. I repeat: THERE IS A WEEPING ANGEL IN THE CRYPT WHERE FRASER AND RAYK STAKE OUT MARCUS ELLERY.

I knew it was a good time for a fannish renaissance.

Yuletide! There were reveals!, so I can now share that I wrote Former Detectives Club, about 1003 words - seriously, at about 4pm on deadline day I was agonizing over every phrase, not wanting to change "couldn't be arsed" to "didn't care" because I needed the word count - of Broadchurch that actually pleases me quite a bit, in its small quiet way. My recipient seemed to like it very much - at least if she was faking it she was doing so very convincingly :-) - and I believe, although I don't have documentation at my fingertips, that the fact that it appeared on someone's rec list the other day means my streak of getting at least one recommendation in every Yuletide is still unbroken. (I may only get in on a technicality for 2007, and I may not even need that technicality if I missed the boat completely in 2008, but whatever. I like when people like my stuff, is the point.)

I find that I am even more pleased to hit Friday every week in this job than I was in my old job. I think this is because I like the job less, so I savor the weekends more. The search continues.

Looks like we've got a room block at a hotel for our wedding guests coming in from out of town. HOLY CRAP WE ARE REALLY GETTING MARRIED. <-= that reaction hasn't let up. We're not doubting the decision, just quietly freaking out about it as we go on with the business of making it happen. I'm accustomed to the ring being on my finger. I still like looking at it catch the light. :-) We are getting used to the word fiancé(e). The other day he reflected that during the reception someone's going to walk up to him and say "Dude, where's your wife?", and he's going to just about faint. Heh.

My favorite Chinese restaurant closed several months ago, and it appears to have been a rent-related issue - because they are supposed to reopen a couple of blocks away any minute now. But their website says "the end of 2013", which has obviously come and gone, and their phone message says "in early January 2014", so I am eagerly awaiting the return of delicious kung pao. Alas that can't be what I have for dinner tonight. SOON.

I watched Doctor Who last week. I liked it fine. There were things I didn't care for, but I'm learning to live with that by not caring as much about the whole business as I used to, which I guess is sad, but my point is, if you don't give the thing your heart, the thing can't break it. I did like Matt Smith's old-man gesturing.

I watched Sherlock last night. I liked it. I liked Mary very much, and she and Sherlock seem to have instantly made themselves allies in the business of being devoted to John Watson, so that's all right. One of these days I'd like it if Sherlock would stop playing cruel mind games with John. (I live in hope.)

  • I stopped in the store on the way to work yesterday and explained (with receipt) that the powder compact I'd bought the evening before had evidently rolled out of the bag before I'd even got to my car - and the girl at the customer service desk said I should go ahead and get another one, and all I had to do was bring it to her so she could compare to the receipt and make sure it was the same thing I'd paid for. Hurrah!
  • I bought a cute sweater; the last one they had happened to be my size. Hurrah!
  • I found that my university billing statement included a $205 library fine for a lost item. Boo!
  • They'd apparently notified me in June that this was going to happen and I just wasn't paying attention - my fault - so in fact by now it is a $215 fine because of a $10 late payment that is my own fault. Also boo.
  • The item is not lost; the boss-type I checked it out for has it in her office and I can return it today and get everything but the late payment back. Hurrah!
  • We will also in future change the procedure for assistant-types checking things out for boss-types. Hurrah!
  • I nominated things for Yuletide. Hurrah!
  • I did not watch the debate last night, preferring to get caught up on Downton Abbey and Doctor Who via the tunnel to ITV and BBC's respective streaming players. Hurrah!
  • Not sure how I feel about DA - for those of you who have seen S3e02, you may realize why I say this - but then I'm not sure we're meant to have feelings about that show, beyond "FREE BATES" and similar.
  • OH PONDS. I have a lot of feelings about DW, but you know, most of them are peaceful.
  • It is Monster Cereal season, and I bought quite a lot of Boo Berry and Frankenberry at Wegmans last night. Hurrah!
  • I also discovered that I don't like smoked mozzarella. Ah well.

It's a fairly sensational episode, but I have just come to the end of an SVU episode in which Alex Kingston plays a defense attorney called Miranda Pond.

Go. :-)

Dinner was a success. Gentleman Caller (who, I begin to think, needs his own tag) had only seen the Eccleston series of Doctor Who (and some classic stuff thanks to a college roommate who, times being what they were, had to collect them all on VHS) and elected to correct that; we began with "The Christmas Invasion" and got through "School Reunion", a good start. I may talk about some other things in a locked-up post, or I may decide I don't need to - and the beauty of the thing is, I can think of three entirely separate, disparate, not-at-all-related things off the top of my head that I could be talking about with that crypticism, so I'm not even being infuriatingly coy.

:-D

Spoilers? )

It's possible this was all explained in the Confidential and I don't know because I didn't watch it, but I feel like if you need extras to make your canon clear (because Confidential ≠ canon, dontchaknow), you didn't do the canon right in the first place.

Fifteen minutes into "Let's Kill Hitler", and you know what my main (spoiler-free) thoughts are?

That's right. RORYYYYYYY!!!

I'm just finishing up a rewatch of "A Good Man Goes to War" before I resume. Today's reminder broadcasts of the first part of the season have revealed a lot more wee hints than I, at least, noticed the first time around. Everyone catch River saying "of course not" ? AHA. (For instance.)

what.

I hear Elisabeth Sladen has died, from cancer, at 63. (Unconfirmed Confirmed in real twitters from real people, which is not official News, but still, why would this be what people would choose to make up?)

This is not okay.

BOO: My "the angels have the phone box" and "my other car seat is in the TARDIS" t-shirts have been TOS'd at Zazzle for copyright violation. I suppose I can see the TARDIS one, but I'm pretty annoyed about the angels one. Anyone with more knowledge and expertise think I can get Zazzle to let me back in, or should I take my designs elsewhere and hope they don't chase me to CafePress etc.?

YAY: My team won our game last night in a rout and then won our game this morning in a really embarrassing fashion; lost the toss, held them to one, took one, gave up two, gave up a steal of two, gave up a steal of one - so now we're down 6-1 after five, mind you - and then took four and stole three and we were out of time, so that was that. I've never felt I deserved a win less. Still, though, here we are leading our bracket.
