Section A
Transcribe the following sentences in phonetic symbols (according to the system discussed in class and given on Handout 4). Be sure to mark at least one stress (acute accent) on each word; a word may have secondary stress (grave accent) as well. Also be sure not to transcribe the spaces between words; remember, the speech stream is a continuum.

1. The old ram stands looking down over rockslides, stupidly triumphant.

2. I will be brief: your noble son is mad.

3. We apologize for the inconvenience.
