I have one (or possibly two) letters written to (or very possibly by) my great-grandmother, who left Bialystok in 1920. The language is either Hebrew or Yiddish, neither of which I would really understand even if I could transliterate the words.

Do I know anyone who can read and translate 100yo handwritten Hebrew script if I scan it to you?

This is only a "maybe" but I will put this question to my family's genealogist (and it may be a while before I hear back from him).

My friend suggested this “ If it's just a few pages, they can post them in the Facebook group Tracing The Tribe -- there are a lot of people there who can read Yiddish and will translate short things like letters. (It's best not to post those on a Friday night or Saturday -- most of the Yiddish-speakers observe Shabbat, and things posted then will get buried in new posts by the time they're back online on Sunday.)”

I can give it a shot, and I have a few friends who are much better than I am at such things (especially if it winds up being Yiddish).

It does turn out to be Yiddish, and apparently the handwriting is nowhere near as tidy as I thought, but I will definitely send you a PDF of what I've got later today! A very kind Discorder is working on it for me but having multiple options to triangulate from would be great. ♥
