All the gold medalists are getting laurel wreaths this year -- it's a Greek thing.

yes, i know. actually they're olive wreaths, and all medalists (gold, silver and bronze) are getting them. but that doesn't change how much they look like laurel wreaths, and how much it makes a guy with his hand on his heart look like a conqueror instead of just a kid who can swim really fast. :-)

Personally, it drives me crazy when they take the damn things off during the national anthem, as if it were a hat. I don't know why it drives me batty, but it does.
