can we talk for just a second about how vaguely creepy it is to see an american gold medalist with his hand over his heart and a wreath on his head?

yes, i know. actually they're olive wreaths, and all medalists (gold, silver and bronze) are getting them. but that doesn't change how much they look like laurel wreaths, and how much it makes a guy with his hand on his heart look like a conqueror instead of just a kid who can swim really fast. :-)
