re: dinner

the water will boil a lot faster if the burner where you put the pot is the same as the burner you turned on.

Heat pads.

Trust me.

they're not that bad. (which is good, as i have no heating pad.) i used to have crippling pain -- and then when i went on the pill, it went away and was (seriously) like unto a miracle. and now i have the damn cramps again, but it's really just slight discomfort, nothing i can't handle; it's annoying because (a) ordinarily, when i have muscle cramps i can stretch or massage them out, which is not the case here, and (b) for years i had no pain, so now i am feeling betrayed. :-)

You know, you can make a heat pad.

get a sock (or two) and fill it with rice or barley, knot the top, then pop it into the microwave for about 30 seconds. Its called a 'maggie', and it works really nice.

re: ways in which you rock

They are many and sundry, and as such, are greatly appreciated. Enclosed please find your sample pack of Cramp-Be-Gone, including piles of chocolate, tea and warm fluffy pillows.

[considers this] (actually, i have had scented versions of such things in the past, so it's not totally bewildering as a concept. [g])

but i have no rice or barley. [stops before saying "... or socks."]

dried peas, lentils and beans work too. *grin*

unfortunately, M&Ms don't work for maggies, but they work great if you leave them in the freezer.

You can also use rock salt, but it doesn't work nearly so well.

i have none of these things. i have pasta. :-)

but it's okay, because i'm not actually in pain.

....pasta.

you only have pasta?!

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2005-02-08 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
among dried foods, yes. i also have butter and milk and crumpets and peanut butter and jelly and cereal bars and tea and sugar and hot chocolate and some potato chips and, like, apricots (which technically are also dried).

i'm not very kitchen-oriented. :-)

I have one made from dried cherry pits. My MIL gave it to me. It's FABULOUS.

Have you found those stick-on self-heating thingies yet? I discovered them last month & they are the BOMB.

*looks around stupidly* What have I missed?

[identity profile] darthfox.livejournal.com 2005-02-08 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
my sister-in-law introduced me to those (i'd heard of them, i mean, but never bothered to try them because i never needed them since i'd first seen them) that time when i thought i had a backache. the stick-on thingummy didn't work, but that wasn't surprising, since the backache turned out to be a kidney infection. :-)

In return for a mutually agreed upon kipper supply, the cats have volunteered to come to England and be your heating pads.
