GIP!

this is me, checking off a box next to another Deadly Sin.

i've got already Envy (green) and Wrath (red); and this is (obviously) Pride (violet).  this here site tells me that the remaining sins' colors are light blue (Sloth), orange (Gluttony), blue (Lust), and yellow (Greed).  aside from the fact that (a) none of these seems familiar to me in a green-with-envy sort of way (even purple for Pride is kind of a reach, innit?) and (b) i already have an icon where i've photoshopped my left eye blue (i could use the same art with a different caption if i decided to do a Lust one with a blue eye), i've never really been clear on the difference between Greed and Gluttony.  anyone?

Gluttony, I think, is consumption based and Greed, I think, is acquisition based. You can be greedy without being gluttonous, and vice versa. A Miser is greedy -- but very seldom are they considered gluttonous, because they save and scrape every penny. To spend it on things to consume (to be gluttonous) is something they don't do.

...if that makes any sense.

But that's how I've always thought of it.

greed wants to have the cake; gluttony wants to eat it. ;)

it does make sense.

i've also always sort of thought greed and envy were connected -- but i suppose the envious person doesn't necessarily want the thing until his neighbor has it. or something.

Yeah.

I've always sort of linked envy and covetousness -- you want what someone else has, because they have it, not because they have what you want.

well, yeah -- envy and covetousness are the same deadly sin, the way anger is the same as wrath and pride is the same as vanity and greed is the same as avarice -- two names for everything, crazy crazy!

Shouldn't lust be red?

i suppose it could be -- but "seeing red" = being angry, and the site i referenced does in fact give red as the color of wrath (not desire [g]), and blue as the color of lust. go figure.
