Yeah, I had the same reaction.

I don't think it's so much in-jokes as a depth of meaning. Watch the series now. Then watch it again and see what you think.

I can't think of any in-jokes but I could see how you might not get the whole Inara/Mal relationship and the resulting "Trap" conversation. Or well not so much get as "find as funny"...

I have to agree with Gini - I don't really recall any in jokes. Had you seen the series before the movie, you would have had greater affection for the characters, and a more "kick in the gut" reaction when they died.

Especially when Wash died. Damn you Whedon! Damn you all to hell!!!
