So okay.  Blah blah Mark Foley, yadda yadda Hastert, page e-mail instant-message blah.

I hear on the radio that there's a tip line that's just been set up, where you can call a number and hear a recording:  "If you have any information about inappropriate messages between Mark Foley and any current or former congressional page, speak after the tone."

Maybe it's just me, but I'd sort of like it if there were a confidential tip line where a person could leave information about inappropriate messages between any member of congress and any current or former congressional page.  I mean, does anyone think for even a moment that Foley is the only member who's ever solicited inappropriate relationships with pages?  He happened to have been foolish enough to do it in a recordable medium, and he happened to have been unlucky enough to get caught.  (Eventually.)  But if people think he's the only one, people might be interested in this bridge I have for sale.

I would like, in short, if the investigation were into Ways To Make Sure Congress Keeps Its Collective Hands Off The Teenagers, rather than Whether Mark Foley Is Growing Up To Be A Dirty Old Man.

Ooh, I like that conspiracy theory. But there's no way they'll entertain the notion that Soros could do something underhanded. And when there's the opportunity to roast a Republican so close to midterm elections, they won't look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm honestly surprised we haven't heard the kid's name yet. Or have we and I missed it?

I think I remember his name being mentioned, but I don't recall what it is. Or who reported it.

The flood gates are definitely opening at the most inopportune time (for the Republicans), and it's not just relegated to Foley. I guess in politics, if ya can't beat 'em, smear 'em!

(I'm not saying Foley should be absolved. Far from it. If this took place 2+ years ago, it should have been addressed then. Then again, 2003 wasn't an election year...)

No, exactly. There's no excuse for it not being addressed two years ago. And to be fair, the smearing goes both ways and just illustrates the hypocrisy on both sides. But the timing is definitely suspicious.

The name (by which I mean AIM handle) was unobscured for about twenty seconds on ABC.com before someone went "oh shit we didn't obscure that name" and they fixed it.
