fox: ravenclaw: that's hardly common knowledge, is it? (claw - knowledge (by ldymusyc))

so okay, there's a publication date.

I can't go completely offline for the next six months, of course; but I hereby reiterate and reaffirm my pathological spoiler-phobia. I'm speculation-phobic, y'all. So of course I will remove myself to the greatest extent possible from the path of danger; but if you're not prepared to hide your spoilers and potentially-spoilery chatter behind cuts, could you please let me know now? Forewarned is forearmed.

Cheers.

Do you personally speculate about the upcoming books, or do you just try to not even think about it, lest you ruin it for yourself? I know that sounds weird, but I'm honestly curious. I've known people that avoid speculation because basically they don't want the speculation to be right and see in the book that that's the way things are going.

That's exactly it. I try not to think about it; and when people mention things that cannot be in any way construed as spoilers but which nevertheless hadn't occurred to me as possibilities, that gets me thinking three or four steps ahead and then the sense of discovery is compromised if not actually ruined.

I know it's high-maintenance of me. But in my defense, I'm the one doing the maintaining. I'm just trying to find out ahead of time what maintenance needs to be done, so it can be preventive maintenance, if you see what I mean, instead of repair (which never really works).
