okay, I'll do it

DCFOLK:

I know OotP opened close to ten hours ago, but a lot of us will not really be able to see it until the traditional opening day for movies, i.e., Friday after work. The usual payday-movies team of self, [livejournal.com profile] ellen_fremedon, and [livejournal.com profile] sanj has planned to go Friday evening, and before we get tickets we'd love to know if others would like to join us. (It's important to get the tickets all in one lump in order to avoid the possibility of repeating the Matrix: Reloaded separate-screens debacle, which you may remember from four summers ago:
ThingsThatSuck.com: in which your friend, on saturday, buys two tickets for a movie on wednesday; and then you buy one ticket for the same movie; and it turns out that the movie theater is playing the thing on seventeen screens, so for the time you bought your tickets there are at least five screens showing the same film; and it turns out that your friend has two tickets for theater seven, while you have one ticket for theater six.

so it was a few minutes before we met B for dinner. A and i talked to the girl at the counter, who obviously couldn't help us (and truthfully didn't seem to understand the problem). we spoke to a manager-type person, who did understand us, but was very sorry everything was sold out and he couldn't trade any of our tickets for ones in the same theater. normally, i wouldn't have given this much thought, but this was the fucking matrix, and it was going to be packed to the gills, and i didn't want to cause trouble. we decided that when there was more of a line, we'd find someone with tickets in one of the theaters we were in, and try to trade with them.

...

back in line, we figured we were far more likely to find a couple with tickets for theater six than we were to find a solo with a ticket for theater seven. on this theory, B walked up and down the line trying to trade her and A's tickets for something with a number six on it, rather than sending me to find one person with a number seven. (A didn't do the hunting because she's shy of approaching strangers, and also currently a gimp. [g]) it wasn't long before we realized that even finding two people there by themselves was a tough assignment. most people were in groups of four or more, which shouldn't have surprised us. after several minutes, the line had wrapped around where the end was right next to us on the other side of the rope divider, and a couple came and joined it. i was delighted when they said they weren't waiting for anyone else. success! but, alas, they had tickets for theater nine. (see above, re: at least five screens.)

finally, B found a couple with tickets for theater six, who were happy to give them to her in exchange for her tickets for theater seven. and we saw the film, and it was good, and all was right with the world.

So. A poll.

That's basically a vote for 8pm or later but not 11:15pm (as I've got to be up early for heading NYC-wards). Also, before you purchase let me know as I believe that Ryan (Of "But, wait, there were two towers?" fame) may wish to join us depending on final time selection

I'm flexible about time, so 7:15 or later would be fine. If we go to an evening showing, are we eating out first?
