Heh. Considering the time of day and the meeting in question, I was undoubtedly among that gaggle. That meeting is every Thursday morning at 9:30, and is usually about twice as big as that one was, so get used to it. :D

(PS - MW is a loud talker, and she was barely there today. Seriously, you're just going to have to learn to live with it.)

The meeting itself was no problem. It was before the meeting got going, when my door and the conference room door were both open, and there was chattering and cackling and grrr.

I can learn to live with quite a lot. I cannot, however, transcribe when I can't hear what's on my earphones. :-( Fortunately, closing my door almost all the way seemed to solve the problem this morning, and also transcribing won't go on forever. But, you know, while people do have to get used to things, people should also (don't you think?) keep in mind that, hi, workplace. I'm just saying.

I think this is a fair point, and I actually think your best solution is going to be to make a sign (put it in a poly sleeve to protect against multiple tapings; I have a few extra in the lab if you need one) that says "Transcription in progress; quiet is appreciated!" and tape it to your closed door when you're working on this. That conference room was chosen because it's out of the middle of everything and sensitive stuff goes on during that meeting; nobody there wants to be overheard any more than you want to hear them. But it also tends to start late, and we keep the door open before it starts so people can know they're not walking in during the middle of something, so, yeah. :(

The good news is that, due to the nature of the building, closing your door should cut out a lot of the noise. And I'll mention it at the beginning of next week's meeting, as well; with that particular group I can offer no promises that anybody is going to CARE, but there you go.

You are wise and clever. :-)
