at the movies/home stretch update
first: those of you who have not seen bend it like beckham are required to do so immediately.
there was so little about this film that didn't please me. i particularly enjoyed the fathers, both of them, jess's and jules's. i liked mr. jonathan rhys myers as the coach -- more than i expected to, i think, and not just because he's vaguely pretty. those pale eyes of his were kind of strange. i loved the moment right after the kiss in the airport, when he sort of dropped his eyelashes and caught his lip in his teeth. maybe a girly thing to have done, but i liked it a lot. :-)
the girl, the lead, looked a lot like my last roommate. slightly rounder in the cheeks, a little darker in the skin, and my roommate spoke with the accent of middle america rather than london, but other than that, it could have been the same person. freaked me out, man.
i loved, loved, the stuff with the soccer game and the wedding reception cut together. loved it. and i adored that jess's father was playing cricket again at the end, and even more that he was playing with tony and joe. oh, that just made me sigh with satisfaction. i like a good angsty ending as much as the next girl, but at this point, if you're going to dish out happy endings, you pretty much have to bring enough to share with everyone.
when i own a video store, i will package the DVD of bend it like beckham in a boxed set with the DVD of billy elliot.
and now, the update on the finals:
morphology presentation, april 15
discourse presentation, april 16
philosophy paper, due april 30
discourse paper, due may 2
philosophy final, may 5
morphology final, may 6
history of english final, may 8
huzzah! nothing to do for a solid month until the russian classes start ... tomorrow, i have to buy stamps and get an allergy shot, but otherwise, i am unscheduled.
lovin' that.
