sigh.

I didn't hear the speech tonight. But I heard the local news station going on about it in the car on the way from work to errands to curling. And I heard one of the news readers say this:
America has come so far, hasn't it? We've got an African-American as president, and we've got a man of Indian descent giving the opposition response. There's not a white guy up there!
(And then her colleague said "And don't forget Nancy Pelosi, the first woman Speaker!")

I may in fact ("there are hundreds of white guys!") have yelled at the radio.

The President of the Senate (the Vice President of the United States)? Who sat "up there" with Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi? Very much a white dude. Just saying. DC radio didn't know that?

I was about to say the same thing.

Oh, look, and I've found a site that breaks down the Racial Composition of the 111th Congress: White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Native American ... and Jewish. [facepalm]

To say nothing of the ~400 other white men (and women) in the room -- they weren't "up there" on the altar podium, but neither was Bobby Jindal.
