doctor whooooo

First and foremost: Rory never gets any less awesome, does he? Pretty soon that boy is going to explode, and then where will we be?

I saw more than one prediction several weeks ago that Amy's kid would turn out to be River, and will you look at that.

But that means River is Timefolk, as well, right, because we saw that little girl regenerate, which means we can carry on having River even when Alex Kingston gets tired of it, doesn't it?

(I'm skipping over how she's more or less married to her more-or-less grandfather, because hey, they essentially skipped over it, too, so it seems that's what we're doing for the moment. ;-) )

... Except she ends up in the Library Asylum in a white dress, because she's dead. Retconning that one's going to be a stumper.

I am totally behind Rory being awesome. The only note with him that I think was missed in this episode was when the Sontarran confessed he was a nurse -- Rory should have said something like "Well, so am I."

The whole season, there have been set-ups where I expected Rory to say something like "I was an Auton once" or "well, I'm a nurse too", and yet he doesn't.

I can't decide whether they're cutting the character moments for time, or they're trying to show Rory is reticent about sharing with strangers, or they just didn't think of them.

But it's because Rory's a nurse that he knew Strax's wounds were fatal-- if there'd been any hope, he'd have been rendering first aid instead of trying to comfort Strax. Strax's "I'm a nurse" meant "I know I'm dying, don't lie to me"; Rory saying that he was a nurse too would essentially have been saying "Yes, you caught me out, I was lying", which would not have been useful or kind.

But she wouldn't let the Doctor do it either, and she knew he could regenerate, so I think whatever it did, however one died from that thing, it wasn't 'regeneratable' or something. Does that make sense? Maybe it just vaporized you. Her. We never saw an aftermath.

As for the rest of the ep, my jaw is still on the floor and I keep tripping over it. I did NOT expect that at all, which is lovely. Melody Pond --> Pond Melody --> River Song. Oh, and we know Amy and the baby at least spend some time together because we've seen a picture of them together, happy.

Moffat you bastard, I salute you.
