I'm just finishing up a rewatch of "A Good Man Goes to War" before I resume. Today's reminder broadcasts of the first part of the season have revealed a lot more wee hints than I, at least, noticed the first time around. Everyone catch River saying "of course not" ? AHA. (For instance.)

Where does River say "of course not"? I missed that one.

Spoiler, possibly!



Near the beginning of "The Impossible Astronaut" - the astronaut comes out of the lake and shoots the Doctor; the scoobies determine he's dead; River steps over his body and empties her revolver at the retreating astronaut's back, but fails to kill the astronaut, and when her gun is empty, she says (in inimitable Alex Kingston rueful style), "... of course not."

Because the astronaut is the little girl (not a spoiler) and the little girl is a Time Child (not a spoiler) and River is Amy and Rory's daughter (not a spoiler) who was conceived in the TARDIS (not a spoiler) (and River once killed the best man she ever knew (not a spoiler)) so RIVER HAS TO BE THE ASTRONAUT, don't you see? ... That's the kind of speculation I usually shy away from, but in this case it seems so obvious that instead I'm looking forward to seeing how they play it out (and how they make the Doctor not quite so dead). :-D

But but but!! She didn't recognize the space suit when they found it in Florida! And the little girl was afraid of Amy at the orphanage too. I dunno, I think maybe the REAL doctor is in the space suit. Or maybe someone completely different. EEE! I can't wait to find out how this is going to play out!

Gotcha. I had figured that River was the astronaut, through the same mental gymnastics you went through, but I missed the "of course not" line all the however many times I've watched that ep.
