so, SGA again.

i am through "the storm", the whole two-parter.  at present, my read is this:  shepard and ford are frankly tied for Prettiest (aside:  rainbow sun francks?  wtf?!); mckay is obviously my brother in snark; but beckett is really my most favorite, bless him.

also, the women don't piss me off, either of them, which is something.  normally about half the women irritate me for whatever reason (example:  on enterprise, i liked the translator and was bugged by the vulcan.)  (i wasn't nuts about the blonde-moppet avenger chick, but she's not a regular, yeah?, just a guest on a three-episode arc.)

am i getting it right?  discuss.

rainbow sun is the brother i believe of Cree Summer of A Different World fame... so normal names not so much in that family

Sheppard is sexier (with the perpetually tousled hair), Ford is prettier.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Phoenix:

I apologize for everything I've ever thought about the 'nature' names you gave your children. 'River' was really a cool name, actually. And if you had to name a child 'Rainbow', at least you had the sense to use the name for a girl child. (These days, naming a daughter 'Summer' is practically normal; did you guys have anything to do with that?) The only thing, really, is that you seem to have come back from whatever trip you were on before naming Joaquin. I think I remember reading where as a kid he felt left out, and for a while called himself 'Leaf' so he would fit in.

Called himself 'Leaf' so he would fit in.

But you're not like the Franckses, at least, so, you know, peace out.

signed,
Fox.

Two p's in Sheppard (unless that's a typo, in which case a thousand apologies). Neither of the women piss me off, either, although that opinion is a decided minority in the fandom. It's a good show.

My brain is drained.

not a typo at all -- blind ignorance on my part. :-) thankee! [makes mental note]

I'd go with that, though I can buy "cute" for Ford as well. They were the first slash pairing I saw. Pretty not withstanding. ;)

but beckett is really my most favorite, bless him.

I absolutely adore Carson. He's my second fave after Zelenka. He's the guy you'd hang out with, the guy you'd confide in, the guy you'd play doctor with...

also, the women don't piss me off, either of them, which is something. normally about half the women irritate me for whatever reason

Weir annoyed me some of first season. She was just too unhuman, for lack of a better term. Or maybe it's because I liked the SG-1 Weir actress so much better and couldn't get past adapting to the new Weir. Anyhoo, she grew on me. I didn't like Teyla much the first time viewing, but the second time through she grew on me. Second season Teyla kicks arse.

aha, see, i am completely ignorant of the SG-1 Weir actress. [livejournal.com profile] orange852, below, talks about the difference between them, as well, and never having been a regular SG-1 watcher, i'm just ... not in a position to have an opinion on that, i guess. i realize that this makes me not unlike the legions of people who came to HP with the movies and think the books are wrong when discrepancies, turn up, but not really!, because i don't think one way or the other about the SG-1 actress -- just, this one doesn't actively bug me like so many women in sci-fi shows often do. :-)

I don't clearly recall a blonde moppet avenger chick on Enterprise, which is appalling.

I found Weir annoying because they didn't just re-cast the character after Jessica Steen, they changed her completely. She became a lot stiffer, less sure of herself and more easily swayed into doing the ethically questionable, yet expedient thing. The character was being written to recite certain token lines of dialog before the plot went ahead and did what it was going to do anyway. (The whole "Hot Zone" scenario was a complete, frakked up farce, in my opinion.) This situation improved quite a bit in the second half of season one, and the actress seems to have found her feet completely in Season 2.

I never found Teyla annoying, just overshadowed by the personalities around her, which other fans found so. The character is meant to be serene and somewhat unassuming. She isn't a fish out of water like the rest of them. She's also, as far as I can tell, the token grown-up. To me, the character really started coming into her own in "Letters from Pegasus" in the first season, grew quite a bit until the "Siege" arc and has been leaps-and-bounding it during the first half of the second season.

I'm vastly, unspeakably annoyed by the circumstances surrounding Aiden Ford's character arc. It's all very spoilery into the second season, so will shut up now.
