fox: technical difficulties: please stand by. (technical difficulties)
So [livejournal.com profile] wordplay linked me to this story, which is a very cute SGA/Murphy Brown crossover riffing on Joe Flanigan's guest appearances on MB. No problem. It really is cute, and the voices are so right I can hear Candice Bergen in my head, which by the way is kind of creepy, but the trouble is this (which just goes to show how my mind works and how quickly I can get hung up on something trivial):

If Sheppard and McKay and O'Neill were in DC for meetings at the Pentagon, and having dinner in Georgetown, presumably they'd be staying in Crystal City. Possibly in Rosslyn, but that seems less likely. Possibly even in Pentagon City, because hey, Ritz -- but in Arlington County, is my point.

But then if Murphy picked John up at the hotel, why would they need to take the Beltway to get to the zoo?

Sigh. I know, I know -- this is the part where Robert Zemeckis says "Don't worry about it." So I'm not. The story is cute. Just -- that. Yeah. :-}

So I'm watching SGA, which I picked up in the Barnes & Noble DVD sale thing, and I'm just reminded all over again how lucky the Atlantis expedition was that everyone in the Pegasus galaxy speaks English.  Including the Ancients, apparently.  But why didn't they write their language in Roman letters, if they had access to Latin -- which they must have, right, if they used the term "quindozum" to identify a Brotherhood of Fifteen?

here's a question about SGA that someone may have asked before somewhere i wasn't looking:

i can get behind the idea that teyla was speaking figuratively, or from the wraiths' point of view, when she said "they ... cull their human herd", and that the humans don't actually think of themselves as a herd.  that's fine.  but, they do all use the word culling to describe what the wraith do to them.

so why is there not more vegetarianism out there?  i mean, it apparently bothers nobody that people who run and scream when the wraith come to gather (human) food will go into the forest to hunt game for their own people?  i'm not saying the wraith are right, you understand, and it would be nicer of them to kill their dinner before eating it, and torturing people with the idea that they might be set free if they lead the wraith to more people food is very bad.  but ultimately, the wraith are hunters, and the humans are prey.  wouldn't you think that, understanding that, the people might quit hunting themselves?

(also:  in a fight between the wraith and the reavers, who would win?)

[eta:  okay, i take the point that people may not be able to afford, health-wise, not to eat meat.  but the question, really, is why there is no acknowledgment that hunter:food animal::wraith:human.  the athosians (at least) are portrayed as enough of a spiritual, respect-for-the-land, quasi-native-american society that you'd (or at least i'd) think this would have come up.]

okay, i made this observation not long ago in the line at Mission: Space at epcot, but i'll make it again now, since none of you were there -- assuming you could get me up in a spacecraft in the first place, and into a suit and out in space in the second, the concept of an untethered spacewalk?

oh, my god, not for seven frillion dollars.  gah.  gah.
fox: arctic fox: time to hibernate (hibernate)
i am through "the storm", the whole two-parter.  at present, my read is this:  shepard and ford are frankly tied for Prettiest (aside:  rainbow sun francks?  wtf?!); mckay is obviously my brother in snark; but beckett is really my most favorite, bless him.

also, the women don't piss me off, either of them, which is something.  normally about half the women irritate me for whatever reason (example:  on enterprise, i liked the translator and was bugged by the vulcan.)  (i wasn't nuts about the blonde-moppet avenger chick, but she's not a regular, yeah?, just a guest on a three-episode arc.)

am i getting it right?  discuss.

(once more, i genuflect before [livejournal.com profile] sociofemme.  am on the lookout for what to get you in repayment, E.)

after the pilot and "hide and seek", my main reaction is:  wow, this whole cast looks a lot better in motion than in still photographs, eh?
fox: bob fraser: miss me? (miss me)
back in this version of home again.  sleepy in weird ways.  [livejournal.com profile] sociofemme sent me SGA dvds, and i HEART her.  had a nap, so i'm going to try not to go back to bed like RIGHT NOW.
