voyage of the damned

I just remembered that I haven't said anything about the Christmas special, which I watched on Boxing Day.  (I also haven't read many of your thoughts on the subject; I suppose I might, when I have some spare time today.)  I don't have an awful lot; basically, the crux of my reaction is "Dear Rusty:  I know this show is about the Titanic.  But I thought you should know that the Poseidon called -- it wants its Adventure back."

I didn't post about watching it, partly because I hoped that by not talking about it, I could pretend it never happened. It was just so... bad. Just NOT good television.

Nah, I didn't think it was that bad. Not great, but whatever, it was fine, it was a Christmas special and it had David Tennant in black tie, so you know, hey. And The Poseidon Adventure with a TARDIS, bonus. :-)

(Aren't you the one who liked Cyberwoman? I just ask because I can't remember if I'm accustomed to sharing your taste or not. [g] Or was that [livejournal.com profile] longtimegone?)

I was just BORED and then I started realising how it was only the white guys who survived (although that's another story)... And I think I genuinely liked maybe, 35 minutes of the whole first series of Torchwood? Mostly, I rolled my eyes at it and put up with it for lack of any better Doctor Who substitutes.

Fair enough, but two of the three white guys who survived only survived because they were ignorant cowards. (And the third survived with a belly wound.) The non-[white|guys] who perished were the heroes of the thing.

And, ah, Torchwood. It did have its moments, didn't it? Sigh. :-)

My reaction was:
Dear Russell T. Davies,

Enough already with the robot henchmen disguised as Christmas decor. Please to be coming up with different ideas for next Christmas.

-- Jack

That said I did do something of a squee over the bridge crew being the guys from As Time Goes By and The History Boys (old and young respectively). And as a gay male child of the 80s, Kylie Minogue = Yay! Aside from that the only really good moment for me was the newspaperman who was like "London? At Christmas? What do you expect?"

Enough with the robot henchmen, full stop, really. CLOCKWORK IS BAD. WE GET IT. MOVE ON. :-)

I kind of liked the faux Queen saying "Thenk yew, Doctor!"

The Corgi evacuation was my favorite bit.

Well, I did like the robots in The Girl in the Fireplace, though I suppose they weren't robot henchmen since they were the actual villain, though really they were just victims of their own programming.

The other thing I could really do with not seeing again for quite sometime: The Slitheen. You've watched The Sarah Jane Adventures, right?

Yep. I guess I dig that what they're trying to do is get every bit of use out of their investment that they can? But I agree that they should spread the love around a little. No more rubber suits, and no more clockwork men. Let's have more Giles-as-a-fruit-bat. That was fun!

*snorts* I had the same thought. Although I will take David Tennant in black tie over Shelly Winters in her underwear any day.

... but I'll take Shelley over Kylie ANY DAY, WEEK, MONTH, YEAR or CENTURY...

Hee! Only of course Kylie was in the Gene Hackman role (and it was David Tennant as Ernest Borgnine, which is also an easy contest ...).
