Oct. 12th, 2002 08:52 pm1. What's the first thing you remember wanting to be when you grew up?
I have a very clear memory of being in kindergarten and declaring an intention to be a bus driver when I grew up. I can even remember the picture I drew of the yellow school bus to complete the assignment. Thank god I came to my senses -- I have nothing but respect for the brave souls who drive those lunatic ferries, but if I had to drive one, I'd fling myself in front of it.
2. Describe a dream you remember. The first one that comes to mind.
It was morning, and I wasn't sure what morning it was, so I didn't know if I was supposed to go to class or to work or no place in particular. (When I awoke from this dream, it turned out that it wasn't even morning. It was about 8:30 at night, and I'd had rather a longer nap than I'd intended.)
3. What book are you reading?
School: various textbooks on Old English, linguistic typology, Inuktitut, and phonemic analysis, and articles from various others on subject-object marking, word order, animacy hierarchies, and so forth. Non-school: re-reading The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, which entertains me in an off-to-sleep sort of way.
4. What colour are your sheets? Curtains?
Sheets are grey. There are no curtains. (There are blinds that came with the apartment, and they're off-white and could probably use a good dusting.)
5. What song is in your head right now?
"The Emperor's New Clothes" from Hans Christian Andersen by Frank Loesser.
6. Waitaminnit... Where are you?
In my living room. Which is also my bedroom.
7. I am afraid of...:
Failure. But not just ordinary failure -- the kind of failure where you can see that you're going to fail from a mile away, and there's still nothing you can do to turn it around.
8. Your day job/dream job:
Student/director of good plays and good films who still has time to act and doesn't let any of it go to her head.
9. What movie have you seen the most times?
I have no idea. Probably The Sound of Music, owing to a period in my childhood during which I watched it daily.
10. One question for Jesus, or Buddha or Muhammed, etc:
Got a light?
11. The guilty pleasure you'd really rather not admit to here:
I have no answer to that. This is where I admit my guilty pleasures.
12. Comfort food of choice:
Cinnamon toast. (Especially if Mom made it.)
13. What's the last video you rented?
I don't even remember the last time I rented a movie.
14. Who do people say you look like?
Like me, of course.
15. What's the bane of your existence?
Do I have a bane? Frustration.
16. What's the last thing you found on the ground and picked up?
My car keys. I'd just dropped them, of course ...
17. A writer worth reading:
Michael Chabon.
18. Where would you like to grow old?
In the company of loved ones. (Yeah, I liked
elance's answer.)
19. A word of wisdom:
Sagacity.
20. The question you get asked ALL THE TIME!!!:
How many languages do you speak, then? (PSA: This is not the correct question to ask a linguist.)
21. When was your last hospital visit?
About four years ago when I had flu-like symptoms including stiffness in my neck and when I called my doctor's office they said Go To The Emergency Room Right Now. (They don't like hearing "college student" and "stiff neck" in the same sentence, and given how fast meningitis can kill you, I don't blame them.) (I didn't have meningitis.) I've never been admitted or stayed in a hospital overnight.
22. The last thing you said out loud:
"Thanks, you too."
23. Current clothing:
Black t-shirt from my college theatre club, blue jeans, grey socks.
24. Your favourite season:
Fall.
25. In my last lifetime I was probably ...
No wiser than I am now.
