so last semester i learned that a well-known writer and LJer and DeineMutter teammate was in fact a former student of my dad's.
this morning, we had a question about derivative work that was vs. was not copyright-protected, and one team answered it very quickly -- and then the answer-er mentioned she's an IP lawyer. oh, i say, see, i worked in an IP firm for several years; i wrote that question. really?, she says -- what firm? [name of firm], in DC, i say.
"now you're killing me," she says. "i just had my last day at the Palo Alto office."
yeah. of the same firm. i've probably prepared documents for you, then, i say. oh, i doubt it, she says; i never had enough clout to require people to prepare things for me. besides, i was kind of cloistered on [case i was called back to the firm last summer specifically to work on].

sanj, and a friend of hers (she actually amended this to "it's been a long time since i've seen her, but we have overlapping groups of friends") was someone i worked for like a LOT.
