bonspiel report
Mar. 30th, 2003 05:57 pmwell, the weekend didn't precisely suck -- three-fourths of my team, self included, played between reasonably and very well most of the time. the trouble was that our lead just plain didn't play well at all, with the result that we essentially had six rocks for every eight of our opponents' to play with. when that happens, the odds are excellent that you won't win.
and we pretty much didn't. our first game, we hung in there right until the end, and lost. our second game, we mostly held our own, and lost. our third game, we played against a team whose weakest player was stronger than our lead but whose strong players were weaker than the rest of us, so even though we weren't playing our best by a long shot, we managed not to lose. yay us. we weren't quite out of it yet. but in our fourth game, with the lead doing her thing and the rest of us playing more or less like crap, we were beaten pretty handily by
darthrami and her team. then we were out.
but no matter. we had fun, both on and off the ice, which is the most important thing (when there's no money or national titles on the line of course [g]). i always enjoy spending the weekend with curlers. a little bummed that the season is almost (within two weeks or so of being) over, and i won't be able to curl again until october. now what will i do? schoolwork? perish the thought ...
