i've now had no fewer than three students use proceed as the opposite of precede. the hell is up with that?!

so tired ...
Oct. 31st, 2003 03:22 ampraise god, the papers are all graded. a little more than ten minutes each. ugh. previously, i marked them all and then sorted them according to weakest, strongest, etc., and gave grades once they were all marked. this time i graded them as i went, and it looks like i was pretty consistent --
nine A's. ten A-'s. six B+'s. five B's. three B-'s. one C+. two C's. five C-'s. three D's. (i don't believe in D+ and D-; a D is a D.) the kid who had been getting zeroes because he hadn't turned anything in has withdrawn; but i did have one that i didn't grade because the kid handed in something other than what had been assigned.
going to bed now.

1. What was your first Hallowe'en costume?
when i was a baby my parents used to dress me in an orange sweater of my dad's, stuffed with, i don't know, newspaper or t-shirts or something, and stick black electric tape on the front to make a jack-o'-lantern face.
no, seriously.
2. What was your best costume and why?
it wasn't the pumpkin-baby costume, but i bet if you asked my dad that's what he'd say. i don't know what my best costume was. when i was about nine i went as a hershey bar -- big sandwich-board thing made from cardboard boxes, covered with brown contact paper and with the lettering made out of the dull side of aluminum foil. that was pretty cool. my freshman year of college i went as two-face from whichever the hell batman movie had tommy lee jones in it. it was a theme thing they were doing on the crew team -- my boat was the batman boat, so my choices were necessarily limited.
3. Did you ever play a trick on someone who didn't give you a treat?
no. i'm way too nice. (well, i am!)
4. Do you have any Halloween traditions? (ie: Family pumpkin carving, special dinner before trick or treating, etc.)
we used to roast pumpkin seeds. does that count? more and more lately, i think i'm growing in to the tradition of being the grouchy lady who doesn't want the damned kids to come knocking on her door. actually, the past few years i've been the grouchy lady who isn't home when the kids come knocking.
